Every step of this project has been exciting but I want to draw your attention to one often overlooked detail. The courtyard, which sits in the center of the building, serves the function of providing interior classrooms with natural lighting, but also is designed to serve as a memorial to the literal 7 days of Creation as recorded in Genesis.

Being a member of the committee whose goal was to determine the layout and nature of the courtyard, I am especially moved to see our feeble drawings take shape, and to see how our belief in the loving Creator God remains central in all that we do.

“That was the most horrible night imaginable of life, to have someone who is bigger than life just in that instant, taken away,” says DeWayne.

But when the doctor suggested the Boyers had a chance to save someone else’s life, the family did not hesitate. With older daughter Raenelle, the family went down a checklist and agreed to donate specific organs, tissue and skin from Erin’s body.

DeWayne says the family realized Erin would have wanted to “give the gift of life.” He says Erin’s driver’s license indicated that she was an organ donor.

NaTasha Driggers, 46, received Erin’s kidney and pancreas. She had been waiting for a matching donor for a year and a half. Driggers had suffered from diabetes since she was 13.

As an adult in her early 30s, Driggers was put on dialysis for 18 months after her kidneys had started to fail. She says she would be drained from going on dialysis three times a week. But, the process kept her alive.

“For awhile at night, when I was trying to sleep, my chest would fill up with blood and no one knew where it came from,” she says.

Driggers says she prayed every night for a matching donor. On Aug. 12, 1998, her prayers were answered with a call from the Washington Regional Transplant Community. She immediately underwent transplant surgery. Afterward, her health recovered dramatically.

Driggers fills up with tears when she says she finally looked and felt healthy. With her new organs, she no longer suffers from diabetes.

She says the organ donation gave her a chance to watch her children grow up and to complete her education. Driggers is also an organ donor.

A year after the transplant surgery, Driggers and the Boyers exchanged letters. They then agreed to meet.

The union has led to a friendship ever since.

“I’m so grateful for my donor family,” says Driggers.

This is the LAST Skate Night to be held in the gym.

To honor the end of an era we want to acknowledge when SAA first opened its doors. So dust off your wheels, and get gussied up 1940s style for skate night!

Some of the activities that will take place:
Dress up contest (yup – 1940s style)
Relay Race – discover what items were invented in the 1940s
Free Skate to Big Band music

As always there will be tummy-filling treats available for purchase. Items available will be pizza, soda, snack items AND milkshakes!

Doors open at 6:30 and close at 8:30

Our Home and School is pleased to support a student artworks project again this fall. This project will help to raise funds for school needs and projects.

Each student will have the opportunity to create a drawing in school. If you are interested, you may also work on an additional art picture at home with your child. Attached you will find suggestions for creating the best picture possible to make your child’s artwork a piece that you will be proud to display for years to come.    If you choose to work on a piece at home with your child, ideas can be found at www.silvergraphics.com.    When the artwork is completed it will be sent to SilverGraphics where each work of art will be made into one 4” x 5” print so families can see an example of their child’s art. Each family may keep this print as a gift from SilverGraphics with no obligation to buy further products.
You will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of items imprinted with your child’s artwork. SilverGraphics has some exciting NEW products which include: a variety of environmentally friendly products including a grocery tote, lunch bag and popular drawstring backpack; art plaques with an easel back for tabletop display, kitchen products including aprons for both adults and children and useful potholders; waterproof stickers for use on sports equipment or backpacks; coasters with cork backings and more. Your children will be working on their artwork over the next few weeks. Artwork should be ready to submit to Silver Graphics by October 19 at the latest. We expect to have finished products by December 16th, just in time for gift giving over the holidays. These items make wonderful keepsakes and unique gifts. We are looking forward to this celebration of our children’s creativity.
